3 Secrets to a Successful WordPress Website

If you’re using WordPress, here are some important aspects that must not be overlooked. WordPress, as we all now, is the perfect platform for multiple users to contribute content, for blog posts and pages.

1. Setting up Users:

Use the following roles to setup users on your site:

Administrator – has complete control over the site; can change themes, plugins, add new users, write and publish blog posts or pages.
Editor – can write and publish their own posts or those of other users.
Author – can only write and publish their own posts.
Contributor – can write their own posts but not publish.
Subscriber – can manage their own profile but can only read posts.

Several themes these days support author boxes displayed at the end of blog posts. These are very important if your website or blog has multiple authors because every author will want to get recognition for the post he writes and would like his photo & bio to show up on the post in a nice manner.

2. Don’t ignore your Permalink structure:

Don’t leave your site’s permalink structure at default, you want to customize your URL’s.  This takes about 10 seconds and is great when it comes to SEO.  (Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks -> Custom Structure, type in %postname%

3.  Some must-have plugins:

- Recent Posts Slider: This plugin is easy to install and it displays all your recent posts in a nice slider . You can set the categories and posts to include and exclude, select whether or not to show thumbnails and also have several other options to choose from. Once a visitor lands on your website, its important to keep him engaged, and make him spend more and more time on your site. What better way to do this than present him with other posts he might be interested in?

- Mail From: By default, all communication from your WP site, like new user notifications etc. is sent from ‘WordPress’. In other words, ‘WordPress’ is set as the sender of all emails. Using this plugin, you can change this ‘from’ field name to your business name or anything else you want.

- Autochimp: If you’re using Mailchimp for email marketing, Autochimp is a great plugin that automatically adds people to your mailing list when they sign up for an account at your site.

- Google XML Sitemap: No need to elaborate on why you need this one and how important it is.

Hope this helps! If you have any questions, feel free to post them on our fanpage here.
